Learn about native peoples at Heard Museum West
MARICOPA COUNTY (July 31) — The Heard Museum Guild is again offering the four-session course “Native Peoples of the Southwest” at the Heard Museum West in Surprise. Participants will learn about the Southwest and the first Americans from the prehistoric peoples and their historic descendants to the people today, who continue to blend their ancient traditions with the challenges of the 21st century.
The course will be taught by Heard Museum master guide Barbara Johnson. It will meet from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Tuesdays from Oct. 21 through Nov. 4. The first three sessions will be held in the Education Center at Heard Museum West in Surprise. The fourth session, on Nov. 11, will meet at the downtown Heard Museum Campus and will include a highlights tour of the Heard Museum’s internationally acclaimed collection.

Young Jewlers: forging a future at the Heard Museum
On display at the Phoenix Heard Museum through Sept. 7: Featuring the work of eight prominent young American Indian jewelers, this exhibit combines tradition and innovation to form pieces that are both accessory and sculpture. Artists Liz Wallace, Jared Chavez, Keri Ataumbi, Cody Sanderson, David and Wayne Nez Gaussoin, and Maria Samora range in age from 25 to 43 years old and represent the best in a new generation of artists who create contemporary styles in silver, gold, diamond and other fine stones.

Arizona Chamber Announces FY 2008-2009 Executive and Board Level Leadership
PHOENIX - The Arizona Chamber of Commerce and Industry has announced its new Executive Committee and Board of Directors leadership positions for the 2008-2009 fiscal year and will make the appointments official at its 2008 Annual Meeting and Awards Luncheon June 25 at the Scottsdale Plaza Resort.
This event will feature the annual “passing of the gavel” from Arizona Chamber Chairman Ivan Johnson of Cox Communications to Chairman-Elect Richard Hannon of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona. “I sincerely look forward to my time as Chairman of the Board of the Arizona Chamber,” Hannon said. “It is an organization whose strength and influence in our community are only growing. I look forward to being a part of that forward movement to improve the voice of Arizona business.”
Several new positions and Executive Committee policy committees have been created for the upcoming year. At the Officer level, Tim Jeffries, P7 Enterprises has been selected vice chairman of Political Action. The new position will report to the Board about the Arizona Chamber’s involvement in political activities surrounding elections, endorsements, and PAC contributions.
The Arizona Chamber also created two new policy committees. Executive Committee member Eric DeBonis of Southwest Gas will chair a new Energy committee and Rick DeGraw of SCF Arizona will chair a new Workers’ Compensation committee. New chairs for all Executive Committee policy committees are listed below. In addition, the Arizona Chamber welcomes three new members to the Board of Directors.
